Kalyan-Dombivli's sports and cultural venues get a Rs 41-crore modern makeover

Kalyan-Dombivli is set for a major transformation as local MP Shrikant Shinde leads a redevelopment project to upgrade key sports and cultural venues. The initiative focuses on modernising the Sant Savalram Maharaj Sports Complex and the Savitribai Phule auditorium, with funding already in place for the first phase of work.

Residents, athletes, and cultural groups have welcomed the plans, seeing them as a boost for the region’s growth and reputation.

The project aims to turn the Sant Savalram Maharaj Sports Complex into a world-class facility. Known locally as Krida Sankul, it will receive upgrades to meet national and international standards, giving Dombivli’s athletes access to top-tier training and competition spaces.

Alongside the sports complex, the Savitribai Phule auditorium will undergo a full revamp. Improvements include advanced technical systems and better seating, lighting, and accessibility for audiences. The goal is to create a modern stage for performances, reinforcing Dombivli’s cultural scene. Funding has already been secured, with Rs 15 crore allocated for the auditorium’s redevelopment. An additional Rs 26 crore is expected to follow soon, ensuring the project moves forward without delay. Recently, Dr Shinde’s team, including his personal assistant Abhijeet Darekar and MLA Rajesh More, inspected the sports complex to assess progress and finalise plans. Once complete, the upgraded venues are set to redefine Dombivli’s identity. Officials believe the facilities will attract major events, nurture local talent, and position the city as a leading destination for sports and culture in the region.

The redevelopment of these key sites marks a significant step for Dombivli and the wider Kalyan-Dombivli area. With modern sports infrastructure and a revitalised cultural hub, the city is preparing to host larger events and provide better opportunities for its residents. The project’s completion is expected to strengthen the region’s reputation as a growing centre for talent and innovation.
