Jersey Shore kicks off summer with packed crowds and mixed weather

Memorial Day weekend has arrived at the Jersey Shore, bringing crowds and excitement despite mixed weather. Atlantic City is fully booked, with hotels and businesses preparing for one of their busiest times of the year. Mayor Marty Small will officially open the ocean on Friday afternoon, marking the unofficial start of summer. Abdul Rauf is getting ready for his 18th season at Beach Apparel on Atlantic City’s boardwalk. His sales depend heavily on the weather, with ideal conditions being a steady 80 degrees. Even with less than perfect beach conditions, some visitors have already started their weekend early.

Susan Carpineta, from Northeast Philly, finds the ocean mesmerising and says it brings her happiness. Robin Olesky, from King of Prussia, enjoys the sound of waves crashing on the shore. Meanwhile, Leslie Browne and Eric Devore spent two nights in an Atlantic City hotel but plan to return to South Philly on Friday to avoid the crowds. The city has spent millions on advertising to attract families, encouraging them to visit and make memories. Gary Musich, CEO of Visit Atlantic City, confirmed that all properties are sold out for the weekend. The rush is expected to peak as soon as the ocean officially opens.

The weekend will test businesses like Rauf’s, which rely on warm weather and steady foot traffic. With hotels fully booked and the beachfront buzzing, Atlantic City is set for a lively start to the summer season. The city’s efforts to draw visitors appear to be paying off as crowds gather for the holiday.
