Jannik Sinner claims historic 'Sunny Double' with Miami Open triumph

Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner commented on his victory in the Masters series tournament in Miami, where he defeated Czech Irzhi Lehecka in the final with a score of 6:4, 6:4. The second racket of the world acknowledged that the match turned out to be difficult, and the opponent managed to create considerable difficulties for him.

According to Sinner, during the match, it was important for him to maintain stability, despite the difficult conditions and pressure from the opponent. He also noted that the team did his best to prepare for this result and emphasized that he was especially pleased to complete the American series on such a note.

"To be able to win both tournaments in the USA is a special achievement," Sinner told Reuters.

The tennis player added that he had not previously been sure that he could achieve such a result, as it was extremely difficult to do. At the same time, the Italian emphasized that he was satisfied with how this segment of the season had turned out.

The title in Miami became Sinner's second in 2026. Earlier, he also won a tournament in Indian Wells, thanks to which he formed a so-called "Sunny Double" - a victory in two of the largest spring tournaments in the USA within one season.
