Jailer 2 locks September 11 release to dominate Ganesh Chaturthi weekend

The highly anticipated sequel Jailer 2 is set to hit cinemas on September 11. Sun Pictures has confirmed the date to take advantage of the extended Ganesh Chaturthi weekend. The film follows the massive success of the 2023 original, which earned over 600 crores worldwide. Jailer 2 has wrapped principal photography and is now in post-production. Rajinikanth will return as Muthuvel Pandian, the role that won him acclaim in the first film. Joining him are Mithun Chakraborty and Vidya Balan, expanding the star-studded cast.

Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar will also make cameo appearances. Rumours initially suggested Shah Rukh Khan might feature, but scheduling conflicts ruled out his involvement. The release date was originally planned for August but moved to avoid clashing with *Lahore 1947* and *Awarapan 2*. By launching on September 11, the film secures a solo theatrical run, benefiting from the four-day holiday weekend starting with Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14.

Jailer 2 arrives as a standalone blockbuster with no competing major releases. The sequel builds on the original’s box-office triumph, aiming to draw audiences during the festive period. Fans can expect a mix of returning stars and fresh faces when it premieres next month.
