Gorodets Hosts 22nd Zelyonye Svyatki Festival Celebrating Russian Folklore and Unity

The 22nd All-Russian Folklore and Ethnography Festival Zelyonye Svyatki will take place in Gorodets on May 23, 2026. This year’s event aligns with Russia’s Year of National Unity and stands as one of its main cultural celebrations. Organisers have selected 24 folk ensembles from across the country to perform at the festival. The festival has long been a gathering point for ethnographic and folklore groups, drawing participants from thirty Russian regions over its history. This edition received 84 applications from 33 municipal and urban districts in Nizhny Novgorod Region and beyond. Among the confirmed performers are ensembles from Chuvashia, Mordovia, and Mari El.

More than 40 artisans specialising in decorative and applied arts will also take part. The event is organised by the Regional Directorate of Cultural and Educational Projects alongside the Gorodets Municipal District administration, with support from the Creative Practices Team. *Zelyonye Svyatki* forms part of broader efforts under the *Tourism and Hospitality* national project, launched on the initiative of President Vladimir Putin. The project focuses on improving tourism infrastructure, encouraging domestic travel, and raising service standards across Russia.

The festival will showcase traditional music, crafts, and performances from diverse regions. It reinforces cultural ties as part of the Year of National Unity. Visitors can expect a programme blending folk traditions with contemporary artistic practices.
