German Sprint Orienteering Championships 2026 Unveil Knockout Thrills in Bad Harzburg
Bad Harzburg will host the German Sprint Orienteering Championships from May 23 to 25, 2026. The event has already drawn over 600 competitors, with elite athletes travelling from countries like the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Canada. Local organisers anticipate a large turnout from across Germany and beyond. The championships will award three national titles: sprint, sprint relay, and a new knockout sprint format. In the knockout sprint, top runners and juniors will face off in direct elimination heats. This fresh addition aims to add excitement to the competition.
The races will span multiple locations. Bad Harzburg will host the qualifiers and knockout sprint finals. Meanwhile, Osterwieck and Hornburg will stage the sprint and sprint relay finals, with the grand finale taking place in Hornburg on Pentecost Monday. MTK Bad Harzburg, the organising club, has a strong track record in managing major sporting events. Christian Klamt, managing director of Bad Harzburg’s spa, tourism, and economic development company, welcomed the opportunity to bring the championships to the region.
The event promises intense competition across three disciplines. With international participants and a new knockout format, organisers expect record engagement. The championships will conclude in Hornburg on May 25, marking the end of a high-energy sporting weekend.
