Elversberg's promotion hopes dented by 3:1 loss to Düsseldorf

SV Elversberg suffered a 3:1 defeat against Fortuna Düsseldorf in the 33rd round of the 2. Bundesliga. The loss came despite the team remaining level on points with Hannover and Paderborn in second place. Fortuna Düsseldorf’s win lifted them to 15th in the league table. The match took an early turn when Florian Le Joncour scored an own goal in the 26th minute, putting Düsseldorf ahead. Cedric Itten then extended their lead with a second goal just before half-time. He struck again in the 51st minute, securing a comfortable advantage.

SV Elversberg managed a consolation but suffered another blow in stoppage time. Tim Oberdorf’s own goal sealed the 3:1 result, leaving Elversberg reliant on their superior goal difference to stay above Hannover and Paderborn.

Elsewhere, Hertha BSC edged out SpVgg Greuther Fürth 2:1. Meanwhile, Preußen Münster’s 1:1 draw with SV Darmstadt 98 confirmed their relegation from the league. Fortuna Düsseldorf’s victory moves them up to 15th, easing their relegation concerns. SV Elversberg, despite the loss, remains in contention for promotion due to their stronger goal difference. The race for second place continues with three teams locked on equal points.
