Fremont High's baseball revival led by Venezuelan freshman star Roiber Colmenares
Fremont High’s baseball team has reached the Division III final under first-year coach Dino Flores. The team’s success comes partly from freshman Roiber Colmenares, a talented player from Venezuela. His skills have helped Fremont advance to face Hamilton in the championship game. Colmenares arrived at Fremont with strong baseball experience from Venezuela. He approached Flores, who also teaches health, and asked how to join the team. Flores quickly noticed his ability by watching him field a ground ball during class.
Fremont was once a baseball powerhouse, winning five upper-division City titles and a 3A championship in 1992. This season, Colmenares has become the team’s top hitter and pitcher, leading them back to prominence. Meanwhile, the Division II final will feature South East against Roosevelt. Both teams have earned their spots after strong performances throughout the season.
Fremont’s return to the final marks a revival for the programme. Colmenares’ talent has been key, while Flores’ coaching has guided the team forward. Those with high school sports updates can email eric.sondheimer@our website for coverage.
