Franconian derby ends in tense 1:1 draw as police contain rival fans

The 276th Franconian derby between SpVgg Greuther Fürth and 1. FC Nürnberg ended in a 1:1 draw on Saturday. Over 16,000 fans packed Fürth’s Ronhof stadium, with around 3,500 away supporters making the trip. Police maintained tight control to ensure the high-stakes match passed off smoothly. Hundreds of officers were deployed to manage the crowds. Around 1,000 away fans were escorted directly from a nearby parking lot to the guest block, keeping them separated from home supporters. The clear segregation of the two fan groups worked well throughout the day.

Despite the precautions, eight people from opposing camps clashed near the stadium. Police temporarily detained those involved. A handful of minor offences, including insulting officers and resisting arrest, were recorded after the match. The head of Fürth’s police precinct later described the operation as peaceful. Spatial separation and careful monitoring helped prevent larger disturbances.

The matchday concluded with only isolated incidents. Police efforts ensured the derby remained largely free of serious trouble. Fans from both sides left the stadium after the 1:1 result, with no major disruptions reported.
