Five Industry Giants Unite to Revolutionize Future Mobility Software

A new alliance called the Software République has formed to drive innovation in mobility. Five major companies—Atos, Dassault Systèmes, Groupe Renault, STMicroelectronics, and Thales—have joined forces to develop software solutions for vehicles, transport systems, and energy networks. The group aims to shape a more connected and sustainable future for transport. The global mobility market is changing fast. New technologies, such as electric vehicles and advanced software, are pushing growth. Industry experts predict the sector will expand by 60% to €11,000 billion by 2035, driven by demand for connectivity, decarbonisation, and multimodal transport.

The Software République plans to tackle these shifts through a structured approach. Its work will focus on three key areas: vehicle systems, mobility infrastructure, and energy ecosystems. One of its early projects includes 'Plug&Charge', a system designed to simplify electric vehicle charging. Another initiative involves traffic flow simulations to cut emissions and ease congestion. The alliance operates through a mix of partnerships, an incubator for startups, an investment fund, and a research institute. Founding members will collaborate on specific projects, with the first set to launch in the second quarter of 2021. Renault’s involvement highlights the group’s goal of boosting Europe’s competitiveness in sustainable mobility software. By integrating expertise across industries, the Software République intends to create a new sector dedicated to mobility software. Its horizontal strategy seeks to address both market needs and environmental challenges in transport.

The Software République’s launch marks a step toward a more integrated mobility ecosystem. With its first collaborations due in mid-2021, the alliance will focus on practical solutions like streamlined charging and smarter traffic management. The initiative reflects broader industry trends toward digitalisation and sustainability in transport.
