England Lions dominate South Africa A with Stanley's fiery bowling spell

A strong bowling performance from Mitchell Stanley and Eddie Jack put the England Lions in control against South Africa A at Arundel. The visitors, packed with international experience, were reduced to 104-6 before recovering to close the day on 184-7, leading by 27 runs. Both sides were dismissed for 157 in their first innings. The Lions batted first but collapsed early, leaving South Africa A with a chance to push ahead.

On May 22, Stanley struck early, claiming three wickets in just three overs. His victims included Tony di Zorzi, Jordan Hermann, and Zubayr Hamza—all established senior internationals. Jack then joined the attack, taking two more wickets in two overs to leave South Africa A struggling. Despite the early setback, the tourists fought back to reach 184-7 by stumps. Stanley’s performance earned him an ECB development contract for 2026, recognising his growing role in the Lions setup.

South Africa A ended the day with a narrow 27-run lead. Stanley’s three-wicket haul and Jack’s quick strikes had earlier put the Lions on top. The match now hinges on whether the tourists can extend their advantage on the second day.
