Derrick Sanders Honored on Midwest City High's Wall of Fame for Legacy in Sports and Education
Derrick Sanders has been honoured with a place on the Midwest City High School Wall of Fame. The induction ceremony took place on 19 May 2025, recognising his achievements as both an athlete and an educator. His career spans coaching, administration, and leadership in Oklahoma City’s schools.
Sanders first made his mark as a student-athlete at Midwest City High School. He played a key role in securing football state titles for the Bombers in 1994 and 1995. Later, he helped the school win a track championship in 1998.
His coaching career began in 2000, covering football, baseball, and track. As an assistant coach at Carl Albert High School, he contributed to four football state championships between 2012 and 2018. Beyond coaching, he took on administrative roles, including assistant principal and athletic supervisor. In 2019, Sanders assisted in launching the football programme at Classen SAS at Northeast. His leadership extended further when he became Principal Supervisor for Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS). By July 2025, he was appointed Executive Director of Athletics and Physical Education for the district.
Sanders’ induction into the Wall of Fame highlights his lifelong commitment to athletics and education. His work has provided opportunities for students to develop through sports and leadership. The award reflects both his past successes and his ongoing influence in OKCPS.
