Kazakhstan brings badminton to schools in nationwide fitness push
Badminton is set to become part of school physical education across Kazakhstan. The Badminton Federation of Kazakhstan has launched a new initiative to introduce the sport in classrooms nationwide. The project aims to engage young students while promoting fitness and athletic development from an early age. The federation will roll out badminton programmes in schools, starting with around 8,000 pupils. Specialised equipment has already been supplied to participating institutions. Among the first to join are BIL Lyceums for Girls in several cities, along with schools like NURORDA, AIS, GALAXY International School, and Spectrum International School.
Teachers will receive dedicated training and ongoing support to deliver the lessons effectively. The federation’s long-term plan includes expanding the programme to every region in Kazakhstan. Officials hope the initiative will not only improve physical health but also develop skills like speed, reflexes, and strategic thinking. Beyond fitness, the project seeks to build a stronger sports culture. By making badminton accessible in schools, organisers aim to identify and nurture future talent. The focus remains on grassroots participation, ensuring children and teenagers have more opportunities to engage in structured athletic activities.
The programme marks a structured effort to grow badminton at the school level. With equipment in place and teacher training underway, the federation expects wider participation in the coming years. The initiative could lay the groundwork for both recreational play and competitive success in the sport.
