Dodgers crush Angels in high-scoring showdown as Ohtani shines
The Dodgers secured a decisive win over the Angels in a high-scoring match on Tuesday. Early leads shifted as the game progressed, with Shohei Ohtani playing a standout role in both scoring and driving in runs. The Angels struggled to contain the Dodgers’ late surge, allowing seven unanswered runs in the final three innings.
The Dodgers opened the scoring early, but Angels pitcher José Soriano kept them off the bases for most of the game. His control faltered in the sixth inning when Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Will Smith each drew walks to load the bases. Soriano then walked in two runs before being pulled from the game.
Reliever Chase Silseth entered but immediately hit Teoscar Hernández, forcing in another run without the Dodgers recording a hit. Alex Call followed with a sharp ground ball through the left side, driving in two more to extend the lead. Ohtani had already scored earlier in the game after reaching third and capitalising on a misplayed throw by the cut-off man. The Dodgers continued their offensive in the eighth, adding four more runs. Ohtani then delivered a bases-clearing double in the ninth, capping off a dominant performance. His earlier scoring play included a rare little-league home run—his hit landed fair, bounced into the foul-side netting, and rolled back onto the field, allowing him to circle the bases. On the mound, Dodgers pitcher Justin Wrobleski held the Angels to just two runs over six innings, setting the stage for the late-game rout.
The Angels’ bullpen could not contain the Dodgers’ momentum, surrendering seven runs in the final three frames. Ohtani’s offensive contributions, including his unusual home run and clutch double, sealed the victory. The Dodgers’ pitching and timely hitting proved too much for their cross-town rivals.
