Cannes Marché 2023 unveils 4,000 films—from horror sequels to punk documentaries

The 2023 Cannes Marché du Film is showcasing around 4,000 films from 140 countries. As the world’s largest film market, it features everything from blockbusters to low-budget experiments. Buyers and sellers gather to trade films across nearly every genre imaginable. This year’s selection ranges from high-concept projects to films described as 'batshit crazy'. Among the standout titles is Deathgasm II Goremageddon, a horror-comedy sequel directed by Jason Howden. The film is being sold by Raven Banner Entertainment.

*Gun Fish*, a documentary by Wataru Uno, explores Japan’s dangerous tradition of eating fugu, the poisonous pufferfish. ColorBird is handling its sales. Meanwhile, *NOFX: 40 Years of Fuckin’ Up* offers a raw look at the punk band NOFX, directed by James Buddy Day and sold by VMI Worldwide. Other notable entries include *Blood Wine*, a horror film directed by Eric Ivey and Jared N. Wright, represented by The Coven AS Sales. There’s also *Paint You on My Bed Sheet*, a genre-blending mix of horror, romance, and boy-love drama, currently without a director and sold by Bibbidii Entertainment. The market itself is a vibrant spectacle, with around 300 stands covered in bold, eye-catching posters and fliers. Despite competition from streaming platforms and social media, the global film industry continues to produce a vast and varied slate of new work.

The Cannes Marché du Film remains a key event for filmmakers and distributors worldwide. With thousands of films on offer, it highlights the industry’s ability to adapt and innovate. The 2023 lineup proves that, even in a changing media landscape, demand for diverse cinema persists.
