Boston Legacy suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat against Seattle Reign in a historic match held in Rhode Island. The game marked the first professional women’s soccer fixture ever played in the state, drawing over 9,000 fans to Centreville Bank Stadium. The loss ended Boston’s five-game unbeaten run. Seattle Reign took an early lead when Sofia Huerta converted a penalty kick in the 11th minute. The visitors extended their advantage in the 51st minute, with Maddie Dahlien finding the net.
Boston Legacy fought back late in the game. A goal in the 87th minute was ruled out for offside, denying them an equaliser. However, Aïssata Traoré scored in the 94th minute, pulling one back for the home side. The effort wasn’t enough, as Seattle held on for the win.
The match was part of Boston Legacy’s seven scheduled games this season at Pawtucket’s Centreville Bank Stadium. The team is set to move to White Stadium in Boston’s Franklin Park by 2027.
