Bengaluru's railway overhaul gains momentum with ₹50,000 crore infrastructure push

Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, V. Somanna, held a key meeting to review railway projects in Bengaluru. The session focused on improving infrastructure, safety, and commuter convenience across the region. Officials presented updates on major developments, including a new Mega Coaching Terminal at Yelahanka.

During the meeting, Somanna urged officials to work together for the timely completion of projects while maintaining high standards. The discussion covered ongoing works, such as the Road Under Bridge at LC No. 16, Ramohalli Gate, which is set to finish by 30 June 2026.

The minister also reviewed the progress of Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Road Under Bridges (RUBs) within a 100-km radius of Bengaluru. With around 100 level crossing gates in the area, 46 have already been approved for conversion into ROBs or RUBs. These upgrades aim to improve safety and reduce traffic delays. Plans for a Mega Coaching Terminal at Yelahanka were also highlighted. The project is part of broader efforts to ease congestion at Bengaluru’s railway terminals and enhance passenger experience. Additionally, the meeting addressed the acceleration of safety-related works, with over ₹50,000 crore worth of railway infrastructure projects currently underway in Karnataka.

The elimination of level crossing gates and the development of new terminals are expected to boost safety and traffic flow. The minister’s push for better coordination ensures that these projects stay on track. Over ₹50,000 crore in ongoing works signals significant improvements for Karnataka’s railway network in the coming years.
