Belgorod Theater Brings Three Plays to Nizhny Novgorod in May 2023

The Belgorod State Academic Drama Theater will bring three performances to Nizhny Novgorod from May 29 to 31, 2023. This marks the company’s fourth visit to the city, following earlier appearances at festivals in 2019. All shows will take place at the Nizhny Novgorod Academic Drama Theater named after M. Gorky. The tour opens on May 29 with Yahrzeit Prayer, a production based on Sholem Aleichem’s Tevye the Dairyman stories. The following evening, the troupe will stage Let’s Clink Glasses!, a comedy penned by Nadezhda Pushkina.

The final performance on May 31 features *The Dinner Game*, a comic play by Francis Veber. Founded in 1936, the Belgorod theater currently maintains a repertoire of over forty productions. Previous visits to Nizhny Novgorod included participation in the Gorky Theater Festival and the Big Tours programme three years ago.

The three-day tour offers audiences a mix of classic and contemporary works. Each performance will be held at the Gorky Theater, continuing the long-standing cultural exchange between the two cities. Tickets are expected to be available through the venue’s usual channels.
