Astana Hosts Historic Triple Equestrian Showdown Under FEI Spotlight

Astana is making its debut as a host for high-level equestrian competitions under the International Equestrian Federation (FEI). For the first time, the city is staging three major events at once, drawing riders from across the globe. Kazakh athletes now have the chance to earn international ranking points without leaving the country. The competitions began with the FEI Jumping World Challenge Final 2026, featuring a 115-centimetre course. Khurshidbek Alimdzhanov took first place in the opening qualifier aboard CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, with Bekzhan Baizhanuly and Rinat Galimov following in second and third. Bekzod Rozmuhammedov later won the second qualifying round on FLOREZELL, while Bernardo Kraus Guerra and Amy Collinson secured the remaining podium spots.

The main attraction, the FEI World Cup Grand Prix final, is scheduled for Sunday. Riders will face jumps reaching 160 centimetres in height. Nurlan Nogerbek, Director General of Kazakhstan’s National Olympic Committee, welcomed participants during the opening ceremony. Azamat Khassenov, senior coach of Kazakhstan’s national equestrian team, voiced optimism about the home athletes’ prospects. Riders from Brazil, Colombia, India, Russia, and other nations are also competing across the events, which include a World Cup stage, the Challenge Final, and dressage competitions.

The Astana events mark a significant moment for Kazakh equestrian sport. Local athletes can now gain ranking points on home soil, reducing the need for overseas travel. The results from these competitions will shape future opportunities for riders in both national and international arenas.
