Acclaimed Actor Returns to His Native Málaga, Finding New Purpose in Theater

Legendary Spanish actor Antonio Banderas, 65, has revealed that surviving a heart attack was a turning point that forced him to rethink his priorities—and ultimately leave Hollywood for his hometown of Málaga. The news was reported by Page Six.

After his health scare, he abandoned the jet-setting lifestyle between the U.S. and the U.K.

The star sold his private jet, quit smoking, and returned to Málaga, where he purchased his own theater.

"My heart attack was a serious wake-up call. It changed my entire perspective on life," the actor shared.

According to Banderas, it was this experience that made him realize his true calling was theater.

Today, he lives with his partner Nicole Kimpel, runs a restaurant business, and devotes himself to his nonprofit theater, Teatro del Soho, which has become the centerpiece of his life.

"Facing death made me understand that I am, above all, a theater actor... I've never been this happy," he reflected.
