Carolina Hurricanes storm into Stanley Cup Final after 20-year wait

The Carolina Hurricanes have reached the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in 20 years. Their 6-1 victory over the Montreal Canadiens in Game 5 ended a long wait for the franchise. The team now prepares to face the Vegas Golden Knights in the championship series. Carolina’s journey to the Final began with a dominant run in the Eastern Conference Final. After dropping Game 1 to Montreal, they stormed back with four straight wins. Over those games, the Hurricanes outscored the Canadiens 16-5, sealing their place in the Final with a decisive 6-1 result.

Frederik Andersen played a key role in the clinching game, stopping 23 of 24 shots for his 12th postseason win. Taylor Hall and Logan Stankoven led the offence, each recording one goal and two assists. Hall now leads all players in even-strength points during these playoffs.

The Hurricanes’ playoff run has been historic. They became the first team since 1987 to reach the Final in 13 games or fewer with just one loss. Under head coach Rod Brind’Amour, Carolina had reached the Eastern Conference Final four times before but never advanced further—until now.

Brind’Amour took a moment to thank the fans in Raleigh for their support throughout the season. The team’s success marks their first Stanley Cup Final appearance since 2006, ending a 16-year drought. Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final is set for Tuesday night in Raleigh. The Hurricanes will face the Vegas Golden Knights with a chance to claim their first championship in franchise history. Their efficient playoff run and strong performances have positioned them as serious contenders for the title.
