The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to draw heavy betting activity in the US, with three-quarters of bettors planning to place at least one wager. Many expect to bet multiple times per match, suggesting a surge in live, prop, and bet-builder markets. A large majority also believe betting will make the tournament more enjoyable for them. Match results remain the most popular betting market, with 75% of bettors intending to wager on wins and losses. The second most favoured option is ‘both teams to score’, attracting 49% of those surveyed.

Live betting will play a major role, as 84% of US bettors plan to use in-play markets during the tournament. Over half (57%) prefer live wagers entirely, while 27% will mix pre-match and live bets. Team loyalty influences some betting habits, with 51% planning to wager on their favourite team’s games. However, 65% say they will continue betting even if that team is knocked out.

The data points to a highly active betting market for the 2026 World Cup. Live wagers, match results, and bet builders are likely to dominate. Most bettors also see betting as a way to boost their engagement with the tournament.
