Wolfsburg Unveils Ambitious Plans for New 'Schreiberwiese' Urban District

Wolfsburg is moving forward with plans to develop the 'Schreiberwiese' district in Vorsfelde. The city has released a draft zoning plan for public review, outlining a mixed-use neighbourhood with homes, businesses, and green spaces. Residents can now inspect the proposals and submit feedback before the final decision in June. The 6.4-hectare site will feature a mix of residential buildings, commercial spaces, and public facilities. A daycare centre and social housing units are included in the design. The plan also sets aside areas for stormwater retention basins and mitigation zones to protect nearby properties.

A new road branching from Flockenweg will serve as the main access route. Alongside it, dedicated pedestrian and cycling paths will run through the district, connecting to a central route for easy movement. A bus stop is also planned to improve public transport links.

To address noise concerns, a privately funded barrier will be installed. The city aims to create a structured urban layout with efficient transport options. Once the public review period ends, the city council will vote on the final plan during its June session. The draft zoning plan for 'Schreiberwiese' remains open for public comments until the council’s decision next month. If approved, the project will introduce a new neighbourhood with housing, businesses, and improved transport links. Stormwater management and noise reduction measures will also form part of the development.
