Weinviertel's healthcare revolution merges hospitals into one advanced medical hub
The Weinviertel region is set for a major healthcare overhaul, with plans to consolidate three existing hospitals into one specialised medical centre. Hollabrunn’s mayor, Alfred Babinsky, has also secured a new care and nursing facility (PBZ) for the area after recent discussions with officials. Mayor Babinsky met with Lower Austria’s property authorities to draft a concept for the PBZ and an outpatient clinic. The facility is expected to break ground in three years, with completion targeted within five. Finance Councilor Anton Kasser confirmed that construction will begin once land issues are resolved.
The wider restructuring includes the construction of a new Weinviertel Clinic South in Alte Au, Stockerau. Two specialised clinics and two outpatient centres will also be established across the region. These changes reflect a growing reliance on day and week clinics, which handle minor, scheduled treatments more efficiently. Plans remain in the early stages, with financing strategies still under development. Kasser reiterated that the PBZ should be operational within five years, marking a visible step forward in local healthcare provision.
The restructuring will see three hospitals replaced by a single specialised centre, alongside new outpatient and care facilities. Officials aim to finalise land agreements and funding before construction begins in three years. Once complete, the changes will reshape healthcare access for residents in the Weinviertel region.
