Vladivostok boosts urban safety with expanded volunteer patrols
The administration of Vladivostok is actively developing the system of volunteer public patrols (Dobrovolnye Narodnye Druzhiny, or DND). To coordinate their work, city hall has established a special headquarters that facilitates cooperation with law enforcement, organizes training for patrol members, and provides comprehensive support, the city administration's press service reported.
"Currently, six volunteer public patrols are registered in Vladivostok, with over 130 members. Three more patrols are in the process of registration," the statement reads.
Deputy Head of the City Administration Dmitry Svitaylo emphasized that the DND is a key component of the strategy to create a safe urban environment. He noted that citizen involvement in maintaining public order not only reduces crime rates but also strengthens civic responsibility.
Deputy Commander of the Sokol patrol Dmitry Zolotukhin described how joint patrols operate.
"Patrols begin with a briefing at the patrol-post service unit. There, alongside police officers, we receive instructions, form patrol teams, and then proceed together along our assigned routes. Our patrol also organizes its own initiatives," Zolotukhin said.
According to him, patrol members most frequently encounter domestic disputes and incidents in entertainment venues. Additionally, they regularly assist in maintaining order at large public events.
