Toluca crushed 1-7 by América in Liga MX Femenil semifinals
Toluca suffered a crushing 1-7 defeat against América in the Liga MX Femenil semifinals. Coach Patrice Lair described his team’s run to this stage as a 'miracle' but admitted they lacked the quality to compete with stronger sides. The heavy loss leaves Toluca on the brink of elimination from the Clausura 2026 tournament. The match at Estadio Nemesio Díez began with an early lead for Toluca. Abby Erceg put her side ahead in the 20th minute. But América quickly took control, with Geyse Ferreira equalising just three minutes later.
América’s attack overwhelmed Toluca as the game progressed. Ferreira added her second in the 52nd minute, completing a brace. Scarlett Camberos, Kimberly Rodríguez, Irene Guerrero, Nancy Antonio, and Aylín Aviléz also found the net, extending the final score to 7-1.
After the match, Lair criticised his players’ performance. He announced his decision to leave Liga MX Femenil following the defeat. Despite the loss, he did not rule out a future move to manage a men’s team in Liga MX.
Toluca now faces the second leg at Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes, América’s home ground. With a six-goal deficit, their chances of advancing are nearly impossible. The result leaves Toluca virtually out of the Clausura 2026 competition. Lair’s departure marks the end of an unexpected semifinal run for the underdogs. América, meanwhile, will enter the second leg with a commanding advantage.
