Three blazing forest fires currently ravaging the northeastern district

As of Wednesday, three active wildland fires persist in the Northeast Region of Ontario, according to a daily update from Ontario Forest Fires.

  • Cochrane 2: This uncontrolled eight-hectare fire is situated approximately 5 kilometers northwest of the Attawapiskat Airport.
  • Chapleau 5: This 0.4-hectare wildfire is under control, approximately one kilometer east of the north end of Missisagi River Provincial Park.
  • Chapleau 6: This fire, which covered 0.1 hectares, has been extinguished. It was located one kilometer north of Shiners Lake.
  • Timmins 4: This 0.3-hectare fire is currently under control, approximately one kilometer east of Kasasway Lake.

No new wildland fires were discovered in the region on Wednesday evening.

The fire hazard remains high across most of the northeast region, with pockets of extreme hazard near Sudbury, Kirkland Lake, Cochrane, and across the far north along the Hudson Bay to the Manitoba border, the update indicated.
