Is the 2025 Spring Gonna Be the Driest in Over a Century?

The upcoming spring might match the dryness observed in 1881.

Get ready for some sweltering days and parched landscapes. The coming weather days will sizzle and remain dry, with temperatures rising towards mid-week. Nature's been crying out for some good old downpour, but a weather change is only expected around the weekend.

Daniela Bertlich, a weather expert, admits that the topic of drought currently has everyone on edge. Several counties have already announced water-saving measures, and the situation isn't lookingany better.

February brought less than half of the usual rainfall, and March was around 70% too dry. April barely managed half of the expected precipitation. And things have taken a turn for the drier in May, with an astonishing 84% deficit. That's right; this spring might just break the record set in 1881!

But let's hope for the best — will there finally be some rain in the upcoming week? Unfortunately, Monday will be mostly sunny, with the southwest seeing plenty of sunshine. Only the eastern parts of the country can look forward to a brief drizzle, but it won't be enough to quench nature's thirst. Temperatures will soar, reaching 25 degrees in the southwest.

Tuesday will be another scorcher, with a risk of showers and thunderstorms in the southwest, where clouds will be making their way through. It will be warm in many places, with temperatures around 20 degrees.

Things might start looking up from Thursday, with an increase in showers. With a mix of sun and clouds, even northern regions will see a few drops, as well as some persistently rainy days in the Alps. Temperatures will drop slightly and barely exceed 20 degrees.

By the weekend, stronger low-pressure systems are predicted near Iceland and over Scandinavia, blocking the Azores high and leading to more changeable weather. The west of the country can expect some cool rain.

So, while you wait for Mother Nature to put out the fire, make sure to conserve water and stay hydrated! Keep an eye on the weather forecast for updates.

The Commission has also been consulted on the issues of climate-change, science, and environmental-science, given the ongoing discussion about the driest spring in over a century and the associated weather patterns. Despite the anticipated increase in showers from Thursday, there's no guarantee that next week will bring the long-awaited rain to quench the thirst of the parched land.
