Almaty's 55 fountains return with seasonal upgrades and extended hours
Almaty's fountain complexes will be switched on in stages starting in early May and will operate daily from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM until October 1, reports Liter.kz.
According to the city administration's press service, the fountains will run weather-dependent—operations will pause when temperatures drop below +5°C.
The city's Department of Public Space Development reports that 55 municipal fountain complexes, including 11 "dry" fountains, are set to open this season. Their technical maintenance and sanitary upkeep remain under continuous oversight by specialized services.
Preparations for the launch were completed in advance. Specialists carried out a full scope of work, including cleaning the basins and surrounding areas, water disinfection, repainting and repairing equipment, and inspecting engineering systems. These measures ensure the fountains' reliable and safe operation throughout the season.
Meanwhile, renovation projects for the city's key fountains are still underway. Reconstruction efforts cover the fountain at Republic Square and the one near the G. Musrepov Theater. The work is nearing completion, with full restoration and landscaping of the adjacent areas scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.
