Teen dies in suspected illegal street race crash in Wolfsburg

A 16-year-old boy died in a car accident on Erich-Netzeband-Straße in Wolfsburg early on Sunday. The crash occurred after a 21-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle nearby. Authorities are now investigating whether an illegal street race may have caused the tragedy. The incident began around 3 a.m. on Frankfurter Straße, where the 21-year-old driver veered off course. His car hit a curb, a streetlamp, and an e-scooter before the fatal collision. The boy’s body was later discovered in a thicket, with injuries indicating a traumatic rupture of the aorta from the impact.

The driver suffered only minor injuries and was taken to hospital. His licence was immediately confiscated. Prosecutors in Braunschweig suspect the crash may have resulted from an illegal race—possibly a 'solo race' where a single driver speeds recklessly. No further details about the investigation have been released. The 16-year-old had no chance of survival due to the severity of his injuries. The investigation continues, with authorities focusing on whether speeding or racing played a role in the accident. The driver remains under scrutiny as the case unfolds.
