Southern Russia battles floods and landslides as heavy rain persists

Heavy rain has continued to batter parts of southern Russia, causing flooding and landslides. The severe weather has disrupted transport and affected local communities, with warnings now extended until the end of May 21. On May 19, torrential downpours triggered a mudslide along a 100-metre section of road in Ust-Labinsk District. The landslide forced authorities to close the route temporarily, cutting off access between Ladozhskaya and Bratsky.

Crews worked quickly to remove debris, and by May 20, the road was fully cleared and reopened to traffic. Pumping equipment remains in place to drain water from the worst-hit areas. While dozens of nearby households experienced flooding, no homes were reported to have water inside.

The persistent rain has also impacted Novokubansk, Tbilissky, and Armavir districts. Forecasters warn that the heavy downpours will continue across the region until at least May 21. The extended severe weather alert remains in effect, with further disruption possible. Local services are monitoring the situation, and pumping operations will stay active where needed. Residents in affected districts are advised to stay cautious as conditions remain unstable.
