Transport Disruptions
No School Traffic in the Districts of Wittenberg and Börde - Severe weather halts school buses and disrupts life in Wittenberg
School bus services suspended in Wittenberg and Börde districts
Individual schools will decide whether classes will still be held. Parents are advised to check if their children must stay home. Forecasters predict when weather conditions may ease.
In the districts of Börde and Wittenberg, students will be unable to take their usual buses and trains to school on Tuesday. Both districts announced that school transport services would be canceled due to severe weather, as authorities could not guarantee the safe arrival of children at their destinations.
The Börde district administration clarified that while general school operations would not proceed as usual, this did not constitute a full school closure. The legal obligation to attend school remains in effect, and parents were urged to contact their children's schools for specific arrangements.
Milder weather expected, but hazards remain
A spokesperson for the Wittenberg district also emphasized that decisions would be left to individual schools. According to reports, regular public transport in the area had already been suspended from Monday afternoon.
The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued warnings of localized frost and icy conditions for Tuesday. Meteorologists forecast rain in the morning, gradually tapering off throughout the day, with temperatures reaching up to 6°C (43°F). Rain is expected to return overnight into Wednesday, though temperatures will remain above freezing.
