Severe storms threaten Eastern Iowa with damaging winds and possible tornadoes

We got a break from the severe weather for a few days, but the threat returns as we head through the rest of the day into tonight.

The National Weather Service says most of eastern Iowa is under a Level 2 out of 5 Slight Risk for severe storms. Isolated to scattered storms are possible this afternoon, but the main severe threat will come tonight into early Friday morning in the form of a widespread line of storms. Damaging winds will be the primary threat, with isolated tornadoes also possible.

Delaware County Emergency Management Coordinator Mandy Bieber reminds everyone that outdoor warning sirens are not meant to wake you up - so with the second round of storms occurring later tonight into the overnight, residents should have a warning system in place that can wake them up.

Emergency Management has provided a link where you can sign up for voice or text alerts - you can find that link under this story at our website.
