Sarawak Premier's UK Tour Targets AI, Semiconductors and Digital Growth

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will embark on an official working visit to three UK cities from May 2 to May 5. The trip focuses on boosting the state’s data centre capabilities, artificial intelligence, semiconductor industry, and talent growth. The visit begins in Dublin, where Abang Johari will tour the K2 Data Centre. This stop highlights Sarawak’s interest in expanding its digital infrastructure.

In Bristol, the Premier will attend a session between SMD Semiconductor and the University of Bristol. He will deliver a speech and witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding involving the semiconductor firm. The itinerary also includes a visit to the National Composites Centre, showcasing advanced materials research. The final leg takes place in Manchester. There, Abang Johari will join the Sarawak Agenda-Townhall programme and meet with the Manchester Regional Government. A dinner with local Sarawakians will also be held to strengthen community ties.

The four-day visit covers key sectors like technology, education, and industry partnerships. Meetings with government bodies, universities, and data centres aim to support Sarawak’s long-term development plans. Outcomes may include new collaborations in semiconductors, AI, and workforce training.
