Russia's Penitentiary Service holds regional mini-football tournament in May

A mini-football tournament for employees of Russia’s Penitentiary Service will take place in the Nizhny Novgorod Region next month. The event, scheduled for May 6 to 7, will bring together teams from eight regions at the Sports Base 'More Sporta' in Gorodets District. Organisers have planned a full programme of matches and ceremonies for the two-day competition. The tournament will feature teams representing the Nizhny Novgorod Region, as well as regional FSIN directorates from Ivanovo, Kirov, Ryazan, Saratov, Tambov, and Yaroslavl. A national FSIN team will also compete. The event is open only to staff working within the Volga Federal District’s Penitentiary Service.

The competition kicks off with a formal opening, including a parade of participants and a performance by a military band. Matches will follow a structured format: group-stage games, playoffs, semifinals, and a final. The tournament will close with an awards ceremony for the winning teams. High-ranking guests have been invited to attend. These include officials from the Nizhny Novgorod regional government, heads of local law enforcement agencies, and other municipal leaders.

The two-day event will see teams compete in a series of matches at the Gorodets District sports facility. Winners will be recognised during the closing ceremony on May 7. The tournament aims to foster sportsmanship and camaraderie among Penitentiary Service employees across the Volga Federal District.
