Russian man fined $2,200 after explosive joke disrupts flight operations
A poorly timed joke on board a flight can cost a passenger their ticket and a ban from flying with the airline. But that's not the worst of it—often, the "joker" also faces hefty fines and even criminal charges.
The travel portal TurDom (18+) cited the case of a Russian man who ended up in court and was fined nearly 200,000 rubles ($2,200).
The incident took place last summer on a flight to Krasnoyarsk. During boarding, the man pointed to his carry-on bag and, laughing, asked what would happen if it contained an explosive device.
The flight attendant didn't appreciate the passenger's sense of humor and immediately reported him to the captain. The pilot followed protocol: he called the police and removed the man from the flight, unilaterally voiding his ticket.
The plane was delayed. All passengers had to disembark, luggage was rechecked, and part of the crew was replaced. The man was charged with making a false report of a planned terrorist attack. The court handed down a guilty verdict.

"Enjoying myself—and not overpaying"
The airline demanded compensation for the aircraft's downtime. The court ordered the offender to pay 181,000 rubles ($2,000) in actual damages. On top of that, he had to cover court fees and interest on the borrowed funds at the Central Bank's rate.
Here's what you need to remember: Under no circumstances should you joke about weapons, explosives, or any objects that could threaten people's lives on a plane. The crew won't stop to guess whether you're serious—their response will always be swift and severe. After all, the lives of everyone on board depend on it.
