Russian hunter loses airboat and gun after illegal moose killings

A 55-year-old local resident in Khabarovsk District has been convicted of illegal hunting, reports the Khabarovsk Krai Today news agency. The court found that in August 2024, the hunter—who lacked the necessary permits—shot and killed two moose. The damage was estimated at 140,000 rubles. He was transporting the carcasses in an airboat when he was intercepted by wildlife protection officers.

The detained man compensated for the damages.

"The court found the defendant guilty of illegal hunting (Part 2, Article 258 of the Russian Criminal Code) and sentenced him to a fine of 500,000 rubles," the Khabarovsk Krai Prosecutor's Office stated. "His carbine and 1.6 million rubles—proceeds from the sale of the airboat used in the crime—were confiscated."

This follows a previous case in which a fisherman from Komsomolsk-on-Amur was sent to a penal colony for poaching.
