Rain Plays Spoiler as Halle's Record Hopes Wash Away

Halle's big day was derailed by the weather gods on Saturday. The club had drummed up plenty of excitement ahead of the match, but the hoped-for attendance record for 1. MBC 70/90 Halle never materialized. Just before kickoff, the rain began—and, of course, it didn't let up until long after the final whistle. Still, nearly 1,000 fans braved the downpour to pack the motoball arena, with most staying until the very end. A heartfelt thank-you to all the loyal supporters.

The Match: A Struggle in the Rain On the field, Halle's team failed to make the statement they had hoped for. Their goal was to stand toe-to-toe with the opposition for as long as possible, but the slick, rain-soaked pitch threw them off from the start. 1. MSC Seelze dominated early, racing to a 0–5 lead by the end of the first quarter, with goals from Vygandas Zilius (5', 14', 19'), Tobias Hahnenberg (7'), and Stefan Schwarz (10').

The second quarter brought no relief for Halle. Passes went astray, and the team's coordination simply wasn't there. Seelze added two more through Tobias Hahnenberg (22') and Niclas Eberle (26'), sending the hosts into halftime down 0–7.

Halle finally found their footing in the third quarter, creating several scoring chances—only to be thwarted by bad luck. Time and again, the post denied them, while Seelze's goalkeeper, Jan Lebert, seemed nearly unbeatable. The visitors tacked on six more goals (Stefan Schwarz 42', 52'; Tobias Hahnenberg 47', 49'; Niclas Eberle 48'), leaving Halle frustrated and still scoreless at 0–13.

Determined to salvage at least a consolation goal in the final quarter, Halle broke through in the 65th minute when Marc Wochatz found the net to make it 1–13. The arena erupted! The pace quickened from there, with both teams trading blows: Vygandas Zilius (71'), Marc Wochatz (72'), Tobias Hahnenberg (73'), and Benjamin Walther (75') all got on the scoresheet. Final score: 3–15.

A Disappointing Start—but Hope for Improvement This wasn't the season opener 1. MBC 70/90 Halle had envisioned, though no one could control the weather. The club extends its gratitude to all the hardworking volunteers, the catering team, the guests, and the fans who stuck it out despite the dismal conditions. Captain Marc Wochatz admitted the team's performance fell short of expectations but vowed to raise their game. After all, their season target remains a second-place finish in the Nord league.
