Memorial Day weekend brings rain, cool temps as beach season kicks off

The Memorial Day weekend will bring mixed weather, with rain and unseasonably cool temperatures. Despite the chilly forecast, lifeguards will be on duty as the beach season officially begins. Saturday will see highs near 60 degrees, but a downpour is likely. The rain will continue into Sunday, with temperatures only slightly warmer—reaching 60 to 65 degrees. Conditions should improve by late Sunday, though showers may linger.

Temperatures will then rise sharply on Memorial Day, climbing into the low 70s. However, water temperatures remain in the mid-50s, making swimming brisk for early-season visitors.

City lifeguards will patrol the beaches daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until September 13. This year’s beach season spans 106 days, the longest possible stretch. The weekend’s unsettled weather may discourage some beachgoers, but lifeguard coverage is in place. Warmer air arrives by Monday, though the sea will stay cool for now.
