Memorial Day Weekend at Jones Beach faces stormy setbacks and rescheduled events

Memorial Day Weekend at Jones Beach faces uncertain weather, with rain and strong winds expected to disrupt plans. Several events have already been adjusted, including the postponement of the America 250 drone show. Despite the forecast, beachgoers remain hopeful for clearer skies before the weekend ends. The America 250 drone show, originally set for Sunday night, has been moved to Monday due to unsafe flying conditions. High winds, heavy rain, and rough seas make it too risky to operate the drones as planned. Organisers stressed that such delays are rare but necessary for safety.

The Living History village, usually an outdoor attraction, will instead be held indoors at the Boardwalk Café on Saturday and Sunday. Meanwhile, the long-awaited air show, previously cancelled, has been rescheduled for the Fourth of July. This change follows weeks of uncertainty after its initial postponement.

Renovations at the new Yumier Beach Club are on track for completion by Saturday, offering visitors fresh food options for the season. Lifeguards returned to their posts on Friday, but the weekend’s forecast still raises concerns. Beach closures would only happen in extreme conditions, such as hurricane-level surf, but rough waves and rain could limit swimming. With rain and wind in the forecast, visitors may need to adjust their plans. The drone show’s delay and indoor relocation of the Living History village reflect efforts to keep events running safely. Officials will continue monitoring conditions, leaving open the possibility of last-minute changes.
