Malaysia secures FIFA World Cup 2026 broadcasting rights for RM24 million
Malaysia has secured broadcasting rights for the Fifa World Cup 2026, with the government allocating RM24 million for coverage. The tournament, running from June 11 to July 19, will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico—the first World Cup ever held across three nations. Fans in Malaysia can look forward to extensive live coverage in both Bahasa Malaysia and English. Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) and Unifi TV will serve as the official broadcasters for the event. RTM will provide free-to-air access to a large portion of the matches through its television channels and the RTMKlik app. Meanwhile, Unifi TV has confirmed it will air all 104 matches live.
The primary broadcasts will originate from Angkasapuri Kota Media, with most commentary in Bahasa Malaysia and select segments in English. To boost fan excitement, public viewing events will take place at designated locations across the country. The RM24 million cost of broadcasting rights will be partly covered by corporate sponsorships. Authorities have also stressed the need for strict compliance with anti-piracy laws to protect the official content.
With extensive coverage planned, Malaysian football fans will have multiple ways to follow the tournament. The combination of free-to-air and paid options ensures wide accessibility. The government’s investment and anti-piracy measures aim to deliver a seamless viewing experience for all.
