Late own goal hands SV Ried dramatic 2–1 win over Rapid Wien

SV Ried secured a narrow 2–1 victory over SK Rapid Wien in their play-off clash. The match saw late drama, with an own goal sealing the win for Ried in the 77th minute. Both teams now prepare for the second leg on Whit Monday in Hütteldorf. The game started at a fast tempo, with early chances for both sides. Despite the pressure, Ried broke the deadlock with their 21st set-piece goal of the season, taking a 1–0 lead.

Rapid struggled with injuries and absences, forcing coach Hoff Thorup to adjust his lineup. They nearly levelled before halftime, but Amane fired over from close range. Ried’s outgoing manager Gerald Senft also faced challenges, missing striker Van Wyk, who is reportedly heading to South Africa in a multi-million-euro deal.

The second half saw Ried dominate, pinning Rapid back with repeated attacks. The visitors finally equalised in the 75th minute through a combined effort from Dahl and Amane. But just two minutes later, a Rapid own goal handed Ried a 2–1 advantage, which they held until the final whistle. The result leaves Rapid needing a comeback in the second leg at Hütteldorf. Ried’s win, powered by their set-piece strength and late defensive error from Rapid, sets up a tense decider. The outcome will determine which team progresses in the play-offs.
