Krasny Yar Rugby Hub to Expand Ahead of Krasnoyarsk's 400th Anniversary

The Krasny Yar Sports Complex in Krasnoyarsk has long been a key hub for rugby in Russia. For nearly 20 years, it has hosted top-level matches and trained elite athletes. Now, plans are underway to expand and modernise the facility ahead of the city’s 400th anniversary. The complex already features a four-story building with a gym, locker rooms, and medical offices. Athletes also have access to a massage room, a rehabilitation centre, and a small hotel for visiting players. Some services, like recovery and analysis spaces, are open to local residents in the Zheleznodorozhny District.

Last year, floodlight towers were added, allowing for longer training sessions and live broadcasts of competitions on a federal sports channel. The venue regularly attracts large crowds for high-stakes rugby matches involving Russia’s leading clubs.

On May 19, the Krasnoyarsk City Council’s Standing Committee on Environmental Protection and Healthy Lifestyle Promotion visited the site. Their goal was to review the centre’s performance and explore new opportunities for development.

KrasSport, the organisation behind the project, plans a full overhaul of the complex. This includes building an extra grandstand and a new rehabilitation centre. The updated facility will serve both athletes and participants in special military operations. A detailed development plan for Krasny Yar has been drafted and is now being discussed with city and regional officials. The upgrades aim to enhance training, recovery, and event capacities. The project remains on track for completion by Krasnoyarsk’s 400th anniversary.
