Krasnodar Krai battles severe flooding after record-breaking downpour
Heavy rain has struck Krasnodar Krai, dumping over 40 millimetres in just two hours. The downpour caused localised flooding across several streets, prompting emergency crews to respond quickly. Authorities have now extended severe weather warnings until late on May 21. The intense rainfall—equivalent to around four buckets of water per square metre—fell on the evening of May 20. One millimetre of rain translates to one kilogram of water per square metre, making the deluge particularly heavy. Flooding was reported in multiple areas, including Krasnodar’s Musicalny microdistrict and the settlement of Russky.
Emergency services have deployed 31 specialised vehicles and 15 portable pumps to clear water from affected zones. Residents needing help with water removal can contact the Unified Emergency Dispatch Service at +7 (861) 214-33-36. More showers are expected in the region, including the capital, in the coming days. Authorities are urging people to stay alert as conditions remain unstable.
The extended weather warning remains in place until the end of May 21. Emergency teams continue working to reduce flooding risks in vulnerable areas. Residents are advised to monitor updates and seek assistance if needed.
