Iloilo City strengthens crisis response with fire safety and heat risk plans

Iloilo City has stepped up its crisis response efforts as Mayor Raisa Treñas led the Seventh Weekly Meeting of the Iloilo City Crisis Management Council. The session focused on fire safety, heat risks, and community support measures to protect residents during challenging conditions. During the meeting, officials presented a three-year study comparing fire incidents and heat index trends in the city from 2023 to 2025. The analysis aimed to highlight patterns and strengthen prevention strategies.

The council introduced the ‘How Safe is My Home? Home Fire Safety Checklist’ to improve household awareness and preparedness. Barangays were also instructed to monitor local food supplies to ensure stability within their communities.

To address rising temperatures, the City Health Office was directed to track heat-related health risks. Meanwhile, the City Environment and Natural Resources Office will oversee shallow wells and water sources to prevent shortages. Emergency employment programmes are now being rolled out to assist vulnerable families affected by the current conditions. The city’s actions reflect a commitment to proactive governance and safeguarding residents. Monitoring systems for health, water, and food supplies have been put in place. Emergency support for affected families is also underway to ease the impact of ongoing challenges.
