Hailey Van Lith secures developmental deal with Connecticut Sun after rollercoaster season
Hailey Van Lith has signed a developmental player contract with the Connecticut Sun. The move comes after a brief stint with the team earlier this season, where she showed promise before being waived.
Van Lith was originally drafted 11th overall by the Chicago Sky in 2025 but now looks to build her career in Connecticut. Van Lith began her WNBA journey with the Chicago Sky in her rookie season. Over 29 games, she averaged 3.5 points and 1.6 assists per contest. However, the Sky later waived her, leading to a new opportunity.
The Connecticut Sun claimed her on May 6, 2026, after her release. She quickly made an impact, appearing in nine games and starting three. Her standout performance came on May 15 against the Las Vegas Aces, where she scored 17 points and added four assists.
Despite her progress, Van Lith was waived again on May 2, 2026, due to Leila Lacan’s return from overseas commitments. The Sun, however, retained her through a developmental contract, allowing her to continue growing with the team.
The Connecticut Sun has two developmental roster spots reserved for players with fewer than four years of service. Van Lith chose to stay with the organisation, believing it aligns with both her immediate development and long-term ambitions. Van Lith now remains with the Connecticut Sun under a developmental deal. This season, she has averaged 8.1 points and 2.2 assists per game, showing improvement from her rookie year. The contract ensures she stays in a system that values her potential while providing stability for her future in the league.
