Wiesbaden. The Netherlands remains Germany's top supplier of egg imports, accounting for 3.7 billion (68.7 percent) of the 5.4 billion fresh hen eggs imported in 2025, according to figures released Tuesday by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). Poland was the second-largest supplier, providing 15.9 percent (861 million eggs), followed by Belgium with 3.5 percent (190 million).
Germany's egg market shifts as imports and exports decline in 2025
Germany imported a total of 5.4 billion eggs in 2025, while exports reached 1.2 billion and domestic production stood at 13.7 billion. Imports declined by 3.8 percent compared to the previous year (5.6 billion eggs).
Over the past decade, egg imports have fallen by 20.9 percent (from 6.9 billion in 2015). Exports have also dropped, decreasing by 11.6 percent year-on-year (1.4 billion in 2024) and by 40.1 percent since 2015 (2.1 billion). In contrast, domestic egg production has risen by 16.4 percent over the same period (from 11.8 billion in 2015).
Per capita egg consumption in Germany also increased. Provisional data from the Federal Office for Agriculture and Food (BLE) shows the average consumption reached 252 eggs per person in 2025—four more than the previous year. In 2015, the figure stood at 228 eggs per capita.
