Germany braces for scorching Pentecost weekend with near-record heat
A hot and mostly sunny Pentecost weekend lies ahead for Germany, with temperatures climbing unusually high for this time of year. The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued advice on sun protection and heat precautions as some regions brace for summer-like conditions. The southwest will see the most intense heat, with highs of 34°C (93°F) on Sunday and Monday. Along the Rhine, up to 16 hours of sunshine are expected, making it ideal for outdoor plans. The DWD warns that such high temperatures—comparable to late July—require extra caution, including staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous activity, and seeking shade where possible.
In contrast, northern Germany will experience a mix of weather. While 10 to 12 hours of sunlight are forecast, thicker clouds may develop on Sunday, bringing isolated showers. Highs there will range from 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F), with breezy conditions at times. The northeastern half of the country may also see some cloud cover and light rain over the weekend. The UV index will remain high, between 6 and 8, prompting the DWD to advise sun protection for all outdoor activities. Meteorologist Martin Jonas noted that the overall forecast remains favourable for those planning trips or gatherings, though regional differences in weather will persist. Looking ahead, Monday and Tuesday will stay mostly sunny and dry. The southwest will again reach 34°C (93°F), while other areas enjoy milder but still warm conditions.
The long weekend will bring a mix of summer heat and variable weather across Germany. While the south and southwest bake under prolonged sunshine, the north and northeast should prepare for occasional clouds and showers. Authorities continue to stress the importance of sun safety and heat precautions during the unseasonably warm spell.
