Fürth secures €12.5 million for schools and cultural upgrades by 2026
Fürth is set to receive over €12.5 million in government funding for major building projects in 2026. The investment will support new gymnasiums, sports facilities, and upgrades to daycare centres. Horst Arnold, an SPD state parliamentarian from Munich, announced the financial boost this week. The largest share of the funding will go towards the Heinrich-Schliemann-Gymnasium, which has been allocated €5 million for its replacement building. The total cost of the new structure is estimated at €85 million, with completion expected by 2029. Meanwhile, the Helene-Lange-Gymnasium will receive €4 million for new facilities.
Additional funds will modernise local infrastructure. The Stadttheater in Fürth has been granted €1 million to upgrade its stage technology. Over €1.4 million will also be used for new construction, renovations, and expansions at daycare centres and after-school programmes.
Arnold highlighted ongoing financial challenges for Bavarian municipalities. He argued that local authorities remain underfunded and called for increasing their share of tax revenues to 15%. The funding will enable Fürth to expand educational and cultural facilities over the next few years. Construction on the Heinrich-Schliemann-Gymnasium’s replacement is already underway, with further projects set to begin soon. The city plans to use the €12.5 million to address long-standing infrastructure needs.
