Edmonton's outdoor pools open with new reservation rules for 2026

Edmonton’s outdoor pools are set to open for the 2026 season with some changes in place. The city has introduced a new reservation system to help manage visitor numbers. Three pools will welcome swimmers first, starting in late May. The first pool to open will be Wîhkwêntôwin on May 20. Mill Creek follows on May 23, with Queen Elizabeth opening a week later on May 30. Reservations for all outdoor pools must now be made online, with payment required the day before visiting.

This year, the city will no longer offer food concessions at its outdoor pools. Instead, visitors are encouraged to bring their own snacks and empty water bottles or sealed drinks. Vending machines will remain available at three locations: Mill Creek, Queen Elizabeth, and Borden Natural Swimming Pool. In addition to the pools, Edmonton is preparing to open 78 spray parks for the season. The new rules aim to streamline access and improve the experience for swimmers across the city.

The reservation system marks a shift in how Edmonton manages public swims. With three pools opening in May and more spray parks available, the city expects a busy season. Visitors will need to plan ahead by booking online and bringing their own refreshments.
